HOME SERVICE PHOTO GUIDE
How to photograph a home service project safely and clearly
Useful project photos help an independent service professional understand the visible scope before arranging a visit. The goal is clarity, not diagnosis. Stay on the ground, keep a safe distance from hazards and never remove covers or enter a dangerous area for a picture.
QUICK ANSWER
Start with one wide photo that shows the entire work area, then add closer photos of the visible problem, equipment label or surface condition. Include access details when relevant, but avoid faces, house numbers, license plates, financial papers and other unnecessary personal information.
Begin with the whole work area
Take a wide photo from a normal standing position so the provider can see the room, wall, yard, driveway, fixture or equipment in context. A close photo alone may show damage but hide the size and surrounding access.
Add clear detail photos
Photograph visible stains, cracks, leaks, damaged materials, buildup or equipment labels without touching the problem. Use natural light when possible, hold the phone steady and avoid filters that change color or hide surface condition.
Show measurements and access
For planned work, include photos that show the beginning and end of a measured area. Gates, stairs, parking distance, narrow hallways, slopes and equipment access can affect how a provider prepares for the project.
Protect safety and privacy
Do not climb onto roofs, open electrical panels, touch wet wiring, enter standing water, approach unstable materials or dismantle equipment. Avoid photographing faces, children, mail, visible addresses, vehicle plates, passwords or financial information.
Review before uploading
Confirm that the photos show the requested views, are in focus and belong to the correct property. Remove any image that includes information unrelated to the job. The provider can request additional details or inspect the project in person when needed.
